Dr Rose practised in Preston. A member of the GMSC, he prepared the first of two memoranda to the General Practice Review Committee, proposing the formation of a College of General Practitioners, in June 1951 and was co-signatory with John Hunt of letters in the British Medical Journal and the Lancet in October 1951.

The Rose Prize was first awarded in 2005 and is jointly awarded by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London and the RCGP for original work in the history of general practice. An RCGP plaque was affixed to Dr Rose’s old surgery in Fylde Road, Chorley with financial support from Preston and South Ribble Civic Trust in 2009.

Dr Rose is shown three-quarter-length, seated in a floral-patterned chair, wearing the Presidential robe and a chain complete with pendant.
