Frank van Borselen (Borsalia) was a nobleman of Zeeland in the Low Countries. In 1428 he became, through a secret marriage, the fourth husband of Jacoba of Bavaria, Countess of Holland, Zeeland and Hainault. Being childless, she had previously agreed with Philip ('the Good') of Burgundy that Philip would be her heir. On discovering the marriage, Philip had Frank imprisoned, only permitting his release in 1433 after Jacoba renounced her titles. This is thought to be a later copy, possibly eighteenth century, of the original painting of 1470. It is one of the historical paintings acquired from Sir Hans Sloane. There is a similar, but not identical, portrait in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
