Folding fan, the sticks set at the pivot end with a painted enamel miniature on one side and on the other, a key-wound timepiece by a Huguenot watchmaker named John Thierry. A secret compartment in the front guard originally housed a winding tool (since lost). The leaf is painted on the recto with an allegory of Love with two figures in Classical attire presided over by the God of Marriage, Hymen. Whether it was displayed fully open or held closed, this novel fan would have attracted the admiration of those who encountered it.
