Two figures cut from flat steel are interlocked with two other figures at right angles. One pair of figures is active, frozen in a position of moving toward each other in a gesture of mutual attraction and friendship, a symbolic representation of fraternity, and of the rejuvenation of the area. This pair bisect the other pair of figures which are passive, and whose relationship is more ambiguous. The neo-Cubist treatment of the figures is emphasised by the used of different paint colours on each of the figures, from grey through ochre to rust red, which give depth and add further detail to the cut-outs. 'Face to Face' was commissioned to act as one of the gateway sculptures to the Heartlands area of the city (the others being 'White Curl' and 'Sleeping Iron Giant').
