Dunure Castle is located on the west coast of Scotland, in South Ayrshire, about five miles south of Ayr and close to the village of Dunure.

This is one of two John Goudie paintings in the Maggie's art collection. McEwan's 'Dictionary of Scottish Art' lists Goudie as a 'Renfrewshire landscape painter'. Little else is known about the artist and it is possible that he did not survive the First World War.
