This is a print of an original mixed-media work, which was part of an installation for 'Along the Lines of Resistance', an exhibition at the South London Gallery in 1990.

It depicts a bridal party at the wedding of Smith’s Wolverhampton-based uncle, Lyndon Smith. The wedding took place in July 1964 at the New Testament Church of God in Heath Town, Wolverhampton. Lyndon Smith was married for over 50 years until the death of his wife.

The photograph was taken in the 1960s, an era in which many families moved to Wolverhampton from Commonwealth countries and a generation began began their married lives with the hope of a bright future in the ‘Motherland’.
