A clay sculpture of a seated man with a child crying on his leg. It was made by Karl Weschke when he was a prisoner of war at Radwinter rehabilitation camp, a camp designed to turn prisoners into democratic citizens. At the end of the war, Weschke struggled to come to terms with Germany’s defeat and explored his feelings in this sculpture. It was made from clay dug up at the camp. Initially, Weschke wanted to become a sculptor but became a painter after trips to Italy and Spain.
