Henry Mundy was born in Cheshire in 1919. From a young age he worked hard to get a scholarship to pursue his art, and later studied at Camberwell School of Art from 1946 to 1950. For a time he was married to the artist Gillian Ayres. He taught at St Martins School of Art and Bath Academy of Art in Corsham.

He was a prominent artist in the British post-war art scene and was known for his brightly coloured and witty abstract paintings. His work is held in many major art collections.
