Graphic designer Dorrit Dekk turned to printmaking late in her career after retiring from her commercial practice, in which, highly influenced by German émigré photomontagist John Heartfield, she had often incorporated collage into her colourful and playful designs. In this later work, she combines a monochromatic palette with a complex printmaking technique – etching, aquatint and collage – to create a composition that blends elements of both figuration and abstraction that pays homage to Paul Klee.
