This religious painting shows the three Apostles, Peter, James and John sleeping while Christ keeps his prayer vigil. Christ's robes are inscribed with 'FIAT VOLUNTAS TVA' which translates to 'Thy will be done', taken from the Lord's Prayer. Jerusalem is visible in the background with Judas Iscariot and his followers approaching. An angel has appeared in the sky with the Chalice and Host. A vignette in the top right shows the Mass of Saint Gregory. The scene depicts a moment in the Mass when Saint Gregory was faced with an unbeliever in the congregation whom he managed to convert through the aid of prayer. The inclusion of the Mass of Saint Gregory in such a picture, plus its vertical format, suggests this painting may have been part of a larger set originally.
