The huge beacon stands on four legs with British Gas and a flame cut out on each of its four shields and further flames around the upper rim. The beacon was commissioned by British Gas for the Millennium and produced in Great Yarmouth. It was towed around the Suffolk and Essex coast and moored on a barge on the River Thames where it was lit by the Queen at 9.45pm on Millennium Eve.
