One hundred identical life-size cast iron figures, modelled on Antony Gormley's body, stand up straight, looking out to sea. They are dispersed along 3km of Crosby beach and 1km into the sea so that some are partially submerged, depending on the tide. Antony Gormley said:- 'In this work, human life is tested against planetary time. This sculpture... places the industrially reproduced body of a middle-aged man, trying to remain standing and trying to breathe, facing a horizon busy with ships, moving materials... around the planet.'
