Bevan's head of Sir Alexander Fleming (without the torso) was reviewed in an article in 'The Sphere' of 1st May 1948. Fleming reportedly gave many sittings and the reviewer concludes that it is a 'very fine study in character'. Although this discussion's bust might have been cast at a later time, up to its unveiling on the 23rd April 1960, its original shape was sculpted by Bevan in 1948 so this latter year is the appropriate date to mark its creation.
