Comparison with a nearly identical version of this composition in the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco suggests that this painting is a very careful copy, probably by a close follower of the artist, possibly painted in his studio. Hendrick de Fromantiou and Nicolaes Lachtropius have both been proposed as the copyist.
