A minutely-painted street scene. The street leads off to the left and opens out into a cobbled square in the foreground. Brick buildings line the square, with each brick delineated. Leafy trees line the street, and the sky is blue with a tinge of yellow behind the clouds. Behind the brick buildings, silhouetted against the sky, is the tower of the partially-built Cologne Cathedral, surmounted by a small black crane. Tiny figures occupy the square, including a woman sweeping, three gentlemen in hats conversing, a begging family under a tree and various others singly or in pairs.
