A market scene in a busy Roman town. A woman trader is seated in the left corner of the foreground, surrounded by her plants, and more of her wares are displayed on the right. Her hair is secured on top of her head with a head scarf, and she wears a patterned tunic over a dark under garment. A man in blue toga is looking at her stall, a purse in his right hand. Behind him a wealthy couple stroll arm in arm, the man in white, his wife in fine clothes, her head covered in elegant drapery, a bouquet in her hand. In the middle-ground on the right is an open wine shop, with customers drinking inside. Its exterior walls are decorated with images and painted with an election poster. A canvas extends out from the left of the building into a side street, where men are lifting the large amphorae, of supplies for the wine shop.
