This interesting landscape of the town of Alloa on the eve of its industrial expansion and the coming of the railway in 1850 has been attributed at different times to Fleming of Greenock (1794–1845), or to John Heaviside Clark (1771–1863). Both worked as landscape painters. This painting seems a bit different from the styles of either man and may turn out to be an entirely different artist.
