This image is drawn in a fluid line in pen and ink with washes of watercolour and ink throughout.

It is one of many works based on the poetry of Vernon Watkins and Dylan Thomas. This watercolour is similar to a 1956 large oil painting entitled 'Do not go gentle into that good night', in which a man falls into the darkness of primordial chaos to merge with the elements from which he originated. An owl, symbol of wisdom and death, carries a manuscript that is no longer of use to the poet.
