This is a study for a wall painting depicting a concert of cherubs. The symmetrical composition features a central pillar, swathed with fabric drapes, which divides the scene into two. Two ornately curved arches extend towards the extremities of the image. Both the pillar and the arches are illuminated through use of a rich gold colour. Two cherubs sit at the base of the pillar, with a central scallop shell at their feet, playing long pipes. To the left a third cherub sits with a song sheet accompanied by a fourth cherub to right who is playing a lute. Another cherub rests at their feet. Under the right-hand arch a group of cherubs are engaging in a playful activity. The fabrics are mostly coloured in pink and sky blue, the architecture is gold in colour.
