Shaped like a commemorative tablet and decorated with the emblem of the USAAF, between a B-17 Flying Fortress and a Liberator. Together with the RAF Blenheim memorial this is set on the south of the Norwich road, flanking what had been the entrance to the Officer’s Mess, later a RAF museum, now demolished for housing by Taylor Woodrow and opposite the former RAF base, now a carpet warehouse. The memorial is set in a small garden flanked by seating. RAF Watton had opened in 1939, with more substantial than usual buildings by the Ministry of War Architect’s Department, when it was made over to the Blenheims of No. 2 Bomber Group. The USAAF operated there in 1944 and 1945, with B- 17 Flying Fortresses and Liberators. There are two further memorials to USAAF Watton, in the churchyard of St Peter and Paul, Griston and at the entrance to HM Wayland Prison, both on the southern edge of the former airfield.
