Watercolourist who was married to the artist Michael Wharton, 1960–72. She studied at St Andrews University, gaining her master’s degree with honours, 1958; then attended L’Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris, 1959, and studied etching at Regent Street Polytechnic, 1962–4. From 1954 showed at RSA, SSA, SSWA and RSW. Had a joint show with Sir Patrick Nairne at Clarges Gallery, 1983, and solo exhibitions at Barbican Centre, 1990, and The Gallery in Cork Street, 1995, where the theme of large watercolours was water in motion. Wharton’s book Painting Water in Watercolour was launched with an exhibition at Abbott and Holder in 2003. The Argyll Group, Robert Fleming & Company and Hambros Bank hold examples. Had a studio in Ledburn, Skelmersdale, Lancashire.
