Artist in various media, born in Glasgow, the daughter of Francis H Newbery, director of the Glasgow School of Art, her mother being the designer and embroiderer Jessie Newbery. She married the artist Alick Sturrock in 1918. They were both members of the Edinburgh Group, and were included in the travelling show of that name in 1983 based on City Art Centre, Edinburgh. She studied at Glasgow School of Art and became friendly with Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife Margaret Macdonald, their influence persuading her to work in brilliant bright wools in bold colours. She filled sketch-books with exquisite flower and figure drawings and became interested in arts such as ceramics. During World War I worked as a tracer for de Havilland aircraft company.
