Illustrator and painter, born in London, married to Professor C A Pannett. After attending Cheltenham Ladies’ College she studied at Regent Street Polytechnic and Byam Shaw Schools of Art, her teachers at the latter, 1929–34, including F Ernest Jackson. Exhibited RA, LG and had a one-man show at Batsford’s Gallery in 1945 and in Basingstoke Town Hall, Hampshire, 1966. She lived in Basingstoke, the local council buying her work, an example of which was also on the liner Queen Mary. Stanley was most noted as a book illustrator for children, including Mary Norton’s The Borrowers series, although she also published Anatomy for Artists in 1951.
