Artist and teacher who did a foundation course at Manchester College of Art and Design; graduated with first-class honours in Fine Art, Leeds University, 1968; then did a postgraduate diploma in painting, Slade School of Fine Art, 1978. From 1968–71 Shutt made documentary films and lectured part-time at Leeds University; was full-time lecturer in art history, London College of Printing, 1971–6; resigned to do more painting and attend Slade, 1976; taught part-time, mainly in London colleges, from 1978, from 1988 part-time at Brunel University Arts Centre. Mixed shows included LG from 1973; RA Summer Exhibition, from 1981; National Portrait Gallery Imperial Tobacco Award, 1985; and Beaumaris Arts Festival, awarded first prize, 1988. Later solo exhibitions included Histon Gallery, Cambridge, 1988.
