Sculptor, born in Denmark, who transformed furniture into sculpture, as in Young British Artists VI, Saatchi Gallery, 1996, the critic Sarah Kent commenting that Saunders’ sculptures “often encapsulate bitter childhood memories”. From 1986–91 she gained an honours degree in fine art and critical studies at Central St Martins College of Art and Design and worked in London. In 1997 Saunders appeared in the BBC2 Television series A Date with an Artist, in which she created an artwork on a beekeeping theme. Her concrete armchair, Hardback, was sited at The Economist Plaza in 2000; in 2002, at The Kiosk, Kynaston Road, Saunders’ installation Forever fitted out the gallery as a living room; and in 2005–6 Saunders’ Autumn Leaves was an installation of new sculpture at New Art Centre, East Winterslow.
