Painter, draughtsman, architectural designer and teacher, born in Hutton, Somerset, his father being an architect, Edward Organ. He studied at West of England College of Art in Bristol and Slade School of Fine Art, George Sweet and Claude Rogers being notable teachers. Taught painting and drawing at Falmouth School of Art and elsewhere and architecture at Architectural Association and Bristol and Cambridge Universities, eventually becoming a full-time painter. Was a member of RWA and Newlyn Society of Artists. Solo exhibitions included Beaux Arts Gallery, Bath, and Newlyn Orion Gallery from 1983; Browse & Darby from 1984; and Exeter Museum, 1987. In 2003, Jenny Pery’s study By the Look of Things The Life and Work of Robert Organ, published by Sansom & Company, was launched at Browse & Darby.
