Painter and teacher, noted for landscapes capturing strong sunlight and using a rich palette. He was born in Coalsnaughton, Clackmannanshire and, after secondary education in America, attended Rhode Island School of Design, 1961–3, gaining his diploma at Edinburgh College of Art, 1964–8. In 1974 was tutor for Dumfries’ Community Arts Workshop. In late-1980s spent several years at sea, part of the time with the Scottish Fishery Protection Squadron. Commissions included work for British Linen Bank, Bank of Scotland, Dumfries Educational Trust and Glasgow Hilton International. Mixed shows included Scottish Wallhangings, a Scottish Arts Council tour, 1968; Dumfries and Galloway Fine Arts Society, from 1974; RSA Summer Exhibitions, from 1977; Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, from 1981; and Four Scottish Painters at The Contemporary Fine Art Gallery, Eton, 1992.
