Painter and printmaker, son of the artist Norman Macbeth. He studied at Edinburgh University and art at Royal Scottish Academy Schools and at Académie Julian, Paris. He became a member of RE in 1905 and of RA in 1933 and served on their councils. Also showed at ROI, RSA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, RI and elsewhere. He was an Arts Club member and a keen golfer, one of his houses, in Stroud Green, being called Wentworth House. Later settled in Dedham, Essex.
