Painter, restorer and teacher, born in Newport, Monmouthshire, where he attended the College of Art, 1944–6. After completing his National Service Jones was at Cardiff College of Art, 1948–51, then began teaching. He was on staff of National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, 1961–3, then until his death was HM Inspector for art in Wales. Having been converted to Roman Catholicism 10 years before he died, Jones completed restoration in a number of churches. He took part in group shows at SEA, Piccadilly Gallery, Whitechapel Art Gallery, John Moores Exhibition, Liverpool, and RP, being noted for his portraits and figure studies. One-man shows included Bristol Arts Centre, 1966. CASW holds his work. RCamA in Conwy held a 2006 retrospective of Jones’s tragically short career.
