Painter, designer, photographer, printmaker and writer, born and lived in London, who studied at St Martin’s School of Art, teachers including Leon Underwood and Vivian Pitchforth. Collins early began recording the London scene, showing at RA, while working for London Press Exchange advertising agency. After World War II, during which he did agricultural work as a conscientious objector, Collins studied in 1947 in Morris Kestelman’s life class at Central School and exhibited at most of London’s societies, including LG, PS, RBA, ROI, RSMA, RWS, and in the provinces. In 1945 Collins designed the sleeve for Britain’s first long-playing record, issued by Decca; in 1951 wrote a children’s book, The Flying Poodle; in 1952 edited and illustrated The Young Ballet Dancer magazine; and in 1954 illustrated with colour lithographs Noel Carrington’s Colour and Pattern in the Home.
