Imaginative watercolourist, illustrator and teacher. Born in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, he was educated at Cambridge University and the Slade School of Fine Art, where he gained the life painting prize. Went on to become art master at Bradfield College and tutor of life drawing at St Martin’s School of Art. Exhibited RA, Goupil Gallery, NEAC, Alpine Gallery and in the provinces. Notable titles were The Sacrifice and The Torture of Creation. Manchester City Art Gallery holds his oil on canvas Berkshire Farm, 1926. Chubb described his work as having a “visionary” quality, evident in his 1925 picture The Enchanted Valley, in the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull, collection. He lived in the county near Newbury.
