Artist in paint, plastics and clay, and teacher, born in Creeting St Mary, Suffolk, older brother of the painter Peter Burman. He was mainly self-taught, although study periods included a year part-time at Valletta Art College, Malta. He concentrated on exhibiting landscapes, with special interest in East Anglia and its transient weather. Mixed shows included NEAC, RWS, RI, Mandell’s Gallery in Norwich and The Frederick Gallery, Raveningham, where in 1993–5 he showed abstracts. Among Burman’s many other solo exhibitions was a series of studio shows at Old School, Freston, Suffolk, from 1976. Collections holding work included Barclays Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland and the Museum of Fine Art, Valletta.
