Painter and printmaker, born in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent; he eventually became supervisor of art for the local Education Authority, 1951–69. Studied at Burslem School of Art, 1923–6, under Gordon Forsyth, then Royal College of Art, 1926–30, where his teachers included William Rothenstein, Malcolm Osborne and Robert Austin. Was elected RE in 1956, also showing RA. Victoria & Albert Museum, Tate Gallery and Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, hold his work. Brammer was noted for his depictions of the industrial landscape of the Potteries, its ovens, kilns, workshops and canals. Lived finally in Porthmadog, Gwynedd.
