Sculptor in bronze, born in Luton, Bedfordshire. He studied at Luton College of Technology and Art, 1957–9. Mixed exhibitions included Young Contemporaries, RBA Galleries, 1962; New Idioms, Robert Fraser Gallery, 1966; Young British Artists, Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1968; Der Geist des Surrealismus, Baukunst-Galerie, Cologne, 1971; British Artists of the 60s, Tate Gallery, 1977; British Pop Art, Birch and Conran, 1987; and Serpentine Gallery, 1991. After a solo show at Robert Fraser Gallery, 1968, later ones included Boxes, Wolverhampton Art Gallery, 1985, Portraits, National Portrait Gallery, 1987, Whitford Fine Art, 2000, reflecting Barker’s interest in popular imagery, such as Mickey Mouse, and Whitford’s 2003 show, accompanied by a full catalogue of his works, 1958–2000.
